What's a poltergeist able to do?

When my daughter was 13/14 we had several episodes in the house which remain unexplained. Taps would turn on in the kitchen and bathroom when there was no-one present, doors which were latched shut would slowly open and crockery left on the draining board would be strangly stacked if left overnight. At the time we treated it as a bit of a talking point but no damage was ever caused and we did not find it at all frightening, just strange. The occurences stopped when my daughter was about 16.
